speedometer cable routing question

Trying to rout my speedo cable for a 54 C1pw . My 51 has the cable coming up from the top of the right floorboard to enter the cab. Seems like a strange place to rout it as it may be kicked around. Was it originally routed through the firewall someplace? Lots of holes to choose from
