Wow Lube, how long has it been sence you looked at a new Western, the cable operation has been gone for years and years now. The Weastern are all electric over hyd. Nothen but selinoids doing all the work. This was part of the big push by the feds. Meaning, about 6-8 years ago, when you started seeing all the new "minute mounts" 'Quick mounts" etc. come on the market by all the big manufactures. This was a result of presure from groups that had accedents with plow trucks, those in the other vehicals that sustained major damage, protested guy's running around with plows on their trucks. So, the Fed. told the plow makers to come up with a way to make it easier and or faster to instal and remove the plows, in an effort to encourage people to take them off when not plowing.
(sorry got a bit long winded there)
If you are planing on a new plow, you are likely going to end up with an all eletric type system, (unless you get a pump mounted under the hood, like some Fishers) make sure your battries are in good shape and your Alt. is high out-put. Unless you are jusr doing a little work here and there. If you plan on making money with it, get yourself set up right before you get started.
A good source of info is "plowsite.com" A lot of good guy's on that site that do this for a living and have discussion boards for all the different plow types. (you might even see my ols FF on there :)
