I have seen similar repairs done with some spray weld stuff, that is applied with a special oxy-acetylene setup. Special metal powder is sprayed out through the torch head onto the surface, building it up. then it is GROUND (ie. very hard material) smooth and rethreaded, in a lathe with carbide single point.
I can't think of the name of the co. that made the torch and powder, but I'm sure someone else here has heard of it.
