Hi guys!

I have an input shaft out of an over drive trans that the threads that hold the bearings
are worn off. The guy who previously used it, ran it till the main bearing wore out and disinigrated in the case. I installed new bearings but found out the nut that holds the bearings and thrust washer into the case had no threads and when I got another one discovered the threads were worn to almost nothing. I need to know if there is a way to repair the threads with out ruining the shaft as I don't think I can replace it. I have a lathe So I can do the repairs myself.

Will I need to use carbide tools on this shaft as it is case hardened? Could I turn it down and then re-thread and make a new nut? Any other options?

The transmission is a Warford 3-speed for my Model T speedster I am building.I have tried to ask this question on our club forum but have had no reponses, so I figured who better to ask then a bunch of gearheads into old iron like myself. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the input (no pun intended.)

Chris Becker
