Some of the mid 50's cars had a semi-automatic trans that shared engine oil with the engine. These engines usually have a presure relef valve located on the oil pump cover. The block has oil passages out the back of the block. You don't want to drop a drain pan, pull the drain plug and walk away unless you have a big drain pan!!!! I learned the hard way.
