Mark:

That's what the steale, er, ah, dealers want you to do. That's why they add all this electronic crap. They no longer employ mechanics, but technicians. My friend hired a guy that had about 5 years at a dealer. Didn't know squat about fixing stuff, just how to remove and replace. After 3 years at my friends shop, he still has a hard time "FIGURING" out what's actually wrong with a vehicle without a machine hooked up to a car.

It also ain't just an AMERICIAN THANG. DC adopted the Ford thinking about rather dealing with law suits than actually fixing an issue. That's with ALL their vehicals, not just Dodge or Chrysler. The Japanese are the same way as are the Swedes and everyone else.

Why not get another PW and updating some of the parts, and then you'll have a reliable vehicle for the wife? That's what I'm planing on doing. The wife has a 93 S10 Blazer with over 125K and it runs better than my D. Hell, even my deuce get's better mileage than my D.

I only have 24K on my D, and have had the ball joints replaced twice, and the lowers need to be done again. The tranny has been a problem since it had 16K, and STILL is. I got it with a total of 12 miles on the odo, so I know it's history.

We got our 1st D for the same reason as you (we've now had 3). It turned out that the wife didn't want to drive it to work because of the miles she has to travel, so we got her the Blazer. I agree, the newer the vehical's, the crappier they're built. My 79 Suburban had OVER 500K when I finally got rid of it, and I used it to plow snow most of the time I had it. It still had it's original engine and tranny when I gave it up.

I replaced it with an 85 Burb, which mechanically was a great truck, but the body rusted off (literally). My 99 D was GREAT! I LOVED it. However, at 11K, I had to replace all it's bj's. I was impressed by it's crashworthyness after I rolled it so we got another D. BIG MISTAKE! You can see how it was cheaper built than the 99. Oh, it's an 01.

Good Luck
Ugg
