Nothing is impossible, that is for sure, but you've bitten off a big big bite to chew. Making the 48re work will be a big challenge without installing all the modern gauges & even the antilock brake system out of the 03. Your Cummins likely has the ECM attached to the LH side but you'll also need a 2003 ECM hooked to all the appropriate sensors in order to make that tranny shift. I hope you're good with electronics!
Next, you're going to have to stretch the hood & fenders to fit a 6BT into a WDX or a WM300. I've seen it done once here locally & it's a big program...that's a big engine!
Finally & maybe your biggest obstacle will be your intercooler. I'm really not just sure how you'll find room for it. For my W500 I had a custom built intercooler made to my spec in KY. Even in the big W500 it was very difficult to modify the rad support & rad to fit it in there.
Keep us posted...I certainly don't want to rain on your parade...there's been lots of guys wanting to do the exact same thing as you're planning but few that have taken it to the next level & actually started buying parts!
