Some wood burning stoves have catalysts

I have been reading about masonry stoves which are designed for a very hot fire,
these stoves produce radiant heat. Supposedly a masonry stove can
be as much as 90 percent efficient. The firebox is firebrick and runs undampered. Above the firebox are at least a couple of baffles made from firebrick which extract heat without reducing combustion efficiency.

Compared to a conventional fireplace the
wood will be consumed relatively rapidly,
but the heat will be stored in the massive
brick, with the exhaust released out the
chimney said to be relatively cool. I have
seen no scientific proof of the claims of
90 percent efficiency.
