We don't heat we cool in SoCal...but for the two weeks that do get below 70 degrees Radiant Gas (natural gas or propane) heaters are hard to beat for work areas and large open spaces.
Grainger, Home Depot, Lowes all have them. Look for the BTU's vs cost to compare.
