We had an '82 diesel rabbit, given to us by my father in law. We were happy to get it at the time.
The engine was very good. That is about all I can say positive about the car.
IT was really a "tinny" poorly built car in my opinion. For example, the vent windows could not be used, as they would shake loose from air pressure off their mounts, so you had to keep them closed. Also parts were very expensive.
Unless VW has really changed as a company since the 70's-80's, I would be hesitent about ever having another.
