As to pulling power, Brian hit it on the head.
Using a snatch block, one, two, or more passes will double or triple pulling power.
The MU2 winches have a 6000 pound capacity. Over torquing them will induce one of three problems.

1. You will distort the bore of the dog clutch causing it to stick to the drum shaft.

2. You will distort the 4 bolt flanges that support the worm gear. (always pull with the winch lever forward)

3. You will actually bend the 1" shaft that powers the winch from the PTO.

So use a soft bolt and don't break anything. When I bought my truck, conditions 1 and 3 existed. It had a nice grade 8 bolt as the shear pin.
