SUV = SPORT Utility Vehicle. If you want to get technical about it, you'd need to see who created a vehicle for this market AFTER the war, and also for the CIVILIAN market, not the military.
In that context, Jeep does have a claim because they got the CJ-2A to market very shortly after WWII ended.
But, don't forget Marmon-Herrington was converting Fords and other back ion the 1930's. They even converted panels, woodies and coupes to 4x4. Thus, these may have a valid claim for a pre-war SUV.
