Lets see.. back then "Jeeps" were made by a company called
Bantam I believe still, and was only at that point losing their
military contracts to Willys Overland and Ford (but the military
let Bantam still make the trailers to be hauled by Jeeps) "Jeep"
as a trade name didn't exist until AFTER WWII so I honestly can't see
how they can claim there truly was a "Jeep" before something like '47(?)
and everything before that point has to be referred to as a Bantam, Willys
Overland (didn't become just Willys until after the war) or Ford. So no,
since "Jeep" truly didn't exist at that point, they can't claim it. I might
have been off a few years on some things, but I am sure of the overall point
of what I said. But then again I remember watching "My Classic Car" and saw
someone trying to say a late '40s Ford that was made into a woodie and given a axle
in the front by a outside company that did this 'option' for Ford was the first
SUV. I still say the Carryall was the first SUV but I am sure someone will find
a vehicle made in Europe in like the 1920s that will somehow gain claim as the
first SUV someday. But why bother? I, myself, don't care who made what first, I
mainly care about, who made it the best.
