QUESTION: rear taillight wiring harness polarity?????

I posted a request for help yesterday regarding the re-wiring of my 1945 wc-51 weapons carrier (stock 12 volt system)

My first impression was that I may be messed up @ the firewall connector, as the brake light comes on when the headlights are turned on and the running light works when the brakes are hit (passenger side only).

The rear of the harness has two connections for each side, and the rear drivers side has one single lead connector and one dual lead connector. The passenger rear has two connectors, both with single wire leads.. The actual rear light assemblies can only be hooked up properly because of this...

I beleive that there is a combination brake/tailight bulb
in the drivers rear tailight assembly, on the top.
Is this true? (sorry for my ignorance, first
experience with a correct ww2 wiring system!!)

My question is this: Is it possible to insert the 1/4 turn terminal into the top position of the drivers rear tailight assembly upside down?

Then this problem may make sense... The tailight section is being "washed" over by the brighter
stop light bulb because they are switched?

Anyone with experience on this??? Am I on track here?
