Normal procedure is to pressurize the lubrication system with an external pressure tank. Same tank tester that is used for a bearing leardown test. This fills all the oil galleries and bearings BEFORE the engine is turned over. With the oil pan off it is a great final check before you close the engine up that everything is put together correctly and lubed. Hook up the tank to one of the gallery fittings on the outside of the engine. If you can't find one to rent they are pretty easy to make out of an old fire extinguisher case and pipe fitings. After you pressurize at the normal pressure (30-40 pds) crank the engine several times. You should also see pressure on the oil gauge. Disconect the bearing leakdown tester and you should be good to go.
