I think that 302 would be a sweet fit. It is made to rev high, what better choice for a vehicle with 5.89 gears??
Seriously, this is a good idea, go for it. The weirder the swap, the better! I have a International V-304 in my 1949 PW. My brother has a 1952 M-37 with an International V-266 in it, and a 1955 International pickup body!
