I used a civilian Carb and the civilian manifolds. The fording tubes I left apart. The oil fill tube is a press fit on civilian and the military has two studs in the block that bolt to a flange on the oil fill tube. I made a press in tube that was very short and had a plate to bolt to the military fill tube. The oil lines all worked the same. I could have used the military carb set up except for the mounting stud to support the air cleaner and the manifold vacume inlet for the fording system. POW has informed me that the fording valves were discondinued and disconnected or removed in the field. They were supposed to put positive pressure on the crankcase thus keeping water from coming through the seals. What happened was the seals were blown out and then they leaked anyway. You can re-route your crank vent tubing to plumb elsewhere to a vacuum source. The height of the civilian and military manifolds are different and cause the carb heights to be different. I understand the Military 251 accessories (Manifold etc. solve that problem.) Since I did this back in 1968 my memory is a bit fuzzy, but I did cut the military distributor shaft to lengthen it a bit. It sticks in my mind it turned out to not need to be lengthened when used with a military oil pump. In any case I silver soldered a steel tube around the distributor shaft to re-connect it. Hope this helps a bit. It looks the same to all but the most expereinced eye. I could take some photos and send you if you are interested. BOB
