If you ever see the prototype Bantam Jeep that was to be tested at Holibrad by the Army, there is a VC Cmd Car with it's tailgate to the Camera sitting in the parking lot behind the jeep in the distance. (drivers side shot of jeep)
I would dare say the Model T conversion to 4x4, or even something earilier would have to be classed as the first SUV. Especially the T, as it moved so many people "outward" across non-existant roads at the time.
