Sounds like another internet rumor. I think the GL4 gear oil is fine in the trans and GL5 is fine in everything else in these trucks. I would bet that nearly anything would work ok in these compared to the oil they had when these machines were new. For what it's worth, I just drained what I assume is the original oil from my 36 Allis WC. I had to heat the housing to get it to come out at all with a large bullet heater. I got 3 gallons out of the rear end but I had to heat it for an hour with the heater blowing on it from about 8 inches away. It was supposed to be 250 wt oil I guess.
