I also have had good luck with high temperature Coppercoat for ALL my gaskets. I by Permatex in the aerosol cans, or the NAPA equivalent. I rebuilt one engine where I surfaced the head but not the top of the block. I was getting blowby under the head gasket between the number two and three cylinders. Rather than tearing the whole engine down to surface the top of the block, I tried applying a bead of Anerobic Sealer under the head gasket between those two cylinders. The product I used was made either by Permatex or Loctite. It has the consistency of, and looks like, strawberry jelly. It sets up in the absence of oxygen. No more blowby since and that was 15 years ago.
