Any ideas on cam bearing installation?...

Rebuilding this 270 Hemi ('55 Dodge) has given a WHOLE new meaning to "Murphy's Law". I can't find a cam bearing installation tool-set to borrow/rent. I ordered a JC Whitney catalog to see if by chance they have a cheap set (only gonna' use it once in a blue moon) but I don't even know if they carry such a thing. Oh - I know a machine shop would be more than HAPPY to take my money, but I've done this before, and it's not tough... once you have the right tool!

None of the auto parts stores around have a set to rent/borrow/buy, I'm thinking of (tell me if I'm waaaaayy off base here) - taking one cam bearing to Sears (or some place that has a plethora (and I use that word because I like it!) of sockets) and find a BIG socket that will just fit inside the bearing (ID just over 2", about 2.15"), tack weld a couple of washers on the back to create a shoulder, and use it to tap them in. SHOULD work. (?) Then there's the rear bearing that's smaller and I'd have to do the same thing with it.

Any other thoughts/ideas/suggestions welcomed!!!
Thanks gang!
Dana
