I have used the initeria type controllers for a long time. They were never smooth, always a lag in my trailer brakes coming on, or surges. When I got the Gooseneck Trailer, I wanted true Proportional Braking. There are two choices.

1st is Brake Smart. This controller hooks into your hydraulic brake line at the Master Cylinder. The guys hauling big loads swear by the Brake Smart. Soon Brake Smart will have a option to also display EGT and Boost from the diesel. I did not go with Brake Smart since with a new truck, I did not want to open the hydraulic brake line and maybe have some obscure warantee problem.

2nd. Jordan Research in Florida. This is also another true proportional brake controller. However it does not require tapping into the hydraulic brake lines. The Jordan controller mounts on the dash, in any position as its not dependent on initeria and being level etc. After mounting the controller, a stainless steel cable runs from the controller to your brake pedal. As you push on the pedal brakes are applied in direct proportion to the amount a pedal pushed.

I have had a Jordan on my Ram since it was new in 2003. Its never caused one problem. Also you have the ability to 'quick disconnect' the stainless steel cable during periods of non towing if you choose, a 15 second job. The Jordan is smooth as glass.

Pulling a total GCVW of 19,500# with my carryall on the Gooseneck and Ram, you never feel any lag in the brakes or a surge. After being used to ititeria type contollers and then using a true proportional controller such as the Jordan, you almost wonder if the brakes are working on the trailer since you dont feel the lag or surge. But you immediatelly see the huge difference in braking. There is a LED readout to set the controller for different trailers and loads and a button to activate the trailer brakes manual shoud you choose.

Do a goggle search on "Jordan Brake Controlelr" tons of Hits.

the web address for Jordan is;
