I think any of us who have used a saw a considerable amount of time have had an "incident" like you had. I was lucky, just caught my jeans on the left thigh once.
One other safety tip. I went to the E.N.T. doctor a few years ago because of some tinnitis (ringing in ears). After the exam, he told me it was probably caused by the years of chain saw use. I told him I always wore ear plugs. He said that ear plugs alone ARE NOT ENOUGH, that you should ideally wear "ear muffs" over the ear plugs.
Now, I don't cut wood in the summer anymore here in the southeast because ear muffs are too hot!
