GM estimates it is paying $2 billion a year in above-market pricing when it buys parts from Delphi. A few years ago I began to see that supplier names such as Denso often implied quality vehicle. So did GM, Ford
and Chrysler. It is not as if American managers and workers have lost the savvy to make manufacturing sustainable.
When GM spun off Delphi it's legal agreement with the UAW specified that GM would then assume certain legal obgligations of its major supplier should Delphi fail.
