Dual point distributors use the 2 sets to prevent point "float". That is, at higher speeds the momentum of the points can keep them open tooo long, and not allow the coil to saturate with the flux field. Sooo, they use one set to open, then the other to close, allowing longer dwell and better saturation, and a spark that don't get weak at high rpms. It was used lots in race cars. At low speed, the points can still open a long ways too, preventing arcing. I don't know the particulars, but I'd estimate that 35 deg would run like a single point system, and about 45 would take advantage of the dual points. Maybe initially try .025 point gap?

"single point system" sounds like some kind of premium booze process don't it? I'll drink to that!
