I always use some long studs in the bolt holes to act as guides. Then push forward, and rotate (tranny in 4th gear), then step on the clutch, and hear the bell housing ring as the tranny clangs into place.
Beware that you can bend the disc by leaving that heavy tranny hanging in there like I guess it might be right now.... A bent disc won't release all the way and will be hard to shift,,,
