Hi Doc,

It’s been awhile since I looked at Renu’s site and read their process. I believe the OEM coating is magnesium or zinc which is removed by the cleaning chemicals during the hot tanking process of a Radiator shop. A reputable Radiator shop will only steam clean the inside of the tank before making any external repairs. The metal etch from places like Bill Hursh is not as strong and will only roughen the OEM coating surface and bare metal for better sealant adhesion. I believe Paul in NY did a test a forum or two back and showed the results from chemicals he was using to remove paint. If anyone decides to have their tank cleaned by a Radiator shop, the best advice I can give, is to ask, “What metal coating will their process impact?” If they can’t answer that question, I would look for someone else.
