But I think you pose an interesting question. I have tried both in my oil burner but am not sure I have reliable enough data to report. I would guess however that in my truck the heavier oil did not last longer but didn't leak quite as much.

I did have pretty good luck with "75,000 mile for old engines oil" (a couple different brands sold at most discount stores) in my tractor. The tractor was new to me an had not been used recently. It did seem to get better as I used it more, so I can't be sure if that explains the slowly reduced consumption or if the oil for old engines actually is better. I think it might be.
