My Dad has a 94 Dodge 2500 with the 360 gas engine and AT He pulls a horse trailer and hay loads all the time. He drives it back and forth from Maine to Florida a couple of times a year. It has 250K miles on it and the original exaust system. You can park it and put a white sheet under it overnight, no leaks. Never had anything rebuilt except the front end.
Says he gets 14-16MPG unloaded.
I think you just got a bad one, or a pervious owner pounded it awhile.
