Maybe on a WDX, etc. but on a W200 the hot side of the alternator feed goes into the main wiring block as well as the battery (these trucks didn't have a fuse block until the mid 60's), there has been more than one Sweptline melt-down on my forum because of too many amps in the old wiring system.
The wiring in those trucks was rated at 50 amps max. They had 35 amp alternators in wiring originally designed for 20 amp generators. 140 amps just flat cooks them. Batteries and fire extingushers not included....= )
