Fedex shipping

Is anyone here familiar with the term
"class" when figuring shipping costs?
It is right next to weight and ranges
from 50 to 300. I called FedEx and was transferred to four different people who also hadn't a clue ( in more ways than one).
I finally gave up in frustration.
I figured that with the wealth of knowledge
that resides here, someone may know the answer.
