Most of the truck I am restoring is done in hardened urethane. This was shot after the metal was sandblsted, had picklex-20 applied, then epoxy primer and hardened urethane.
On the engine and tranny I have POR-15 engine paint. I also have it on the gas tank, along with the sealer inside. I will keep these items coated with POR.
I decided I wanted to do all the engine accessories in urethane, so I put several parts in a lye solution for stripping for 15 minutes, some of which had the POR finish.
The part on the left had a POR finish. THe lye solution stripped it nearly completely bare. The urethane coated part on the right looked like it hadn't been touched at all by the lye, it was like I never put it in.
This was not a scientific experiment, but is interesting as to differences in paint durability, at least to caustic compounds.
