Hi Paul, I have thought about this a lot and I think the best is a roll bar inside the cab. Would take a lot of fabrication but if you could get to fit under the canvas and come down along the sides of the seats. The hard part would be getting a solid mounting to the frame. Sure would look better than in the bed, plus there is the difference in the cab and bed movement on the trail.
