I'd suggest you take the beast to a gunsmith to unstick it and unload it before you examine it further. If you simply must do it yourself, you can check out the Numrich Gun Parts website for a Harrington and Richardson Model 1904 schematic and see an (pardon the expression) exploded view of the piece.
