I used to run military surplus Gama Goat tires on my 1949 DPW. These tires were NDT and in the 40-41" tall range. They were mounted on adapter plates, which moved the off-set out from stock, but there were no rubbing issues, even at full flex with the steering locked either way.

I now run 38x13x16 Super Swampers on the same truck and love these tires. They are 1000 times better than NDT tires, even new ones.

Mike Stone, don't read this next part.

I think you could fit some of the bigger Swampers on stock rims, especially if it was for off-road use. The 39s and 40s I believe are only a couple inches wider than the 38s, and with the extra sidewall height, it would all flex enough to fit. I do believe these bigger tires would rub, so some lift would be needed.
