I would imagine that there might be some
military tire test data somewhere that would
answer a lot of these questions
but when in mud and in doubt "Chain before
you start" leave them loose a few links and
your traction problems are gone - the chain
rises off of the tire and bites down thru the
mud plus cleans itself
as i said before if one is going to drive on wet paved roads then one should get something
like an STA that is designed for road use as
opposed to a NDT or NATO or NDCC that is designed for off road (no road) use
