Starting to put the motor together. I am installing the new cam and all I can find in my books about how far the timing gear mounting collar(?) gets pressed on against the thrust plate is cam end play- min. .002-max .010 It is just press fit to front of cam.went on fairly easy.
Is this all I have to do? Called Vintage (steve on vacation) someone else told me to put on till it stops. I made sure my front of cam was against the back of thrust plate and tapped the collar on till it bottomed to front of thrust plate. It is slightly past flush with the front of cam, cam seems to turn freely. I did not replace the thrust plate or collar,(should I?) used the originals(no noticable wear on parts) Taking any input before I go any farther, I dont want a problem once all together. The shop manual does not really cover this part of assembley and the industrial engine book from vintage is basicly the same as shop manual. Hope that I explained this correctly,Thanks in advance, John
