how about a bearing assy that is disentegrating, and one of the balls has loosened out of the race and is banging around in there.
had it happen to me once years ago on a very worn 1/2 ton tranny.
Although mine didnt sound like this exactly, but its yet anotehr angle to think about.
maybe SOMETHING is in there rattling around: syro, gear tooth, etc.????
I would think that if its a rear diff, the sound would be thru all of the gears, louder of cource the highr road speed you go.
my money is on something loose inside that tranny, and NOT the rear diff.
