The American army was having a road built to supply fuel for the Army in Alaska. This was durring the second world war. The road was not straight ( because of fear of straffing ) and curved all over the place. When the road was abandoned they just up and left. There usede to be rows of trucks parked in the middle of nowear and fuel cashes and the like too.
It was to darn expensive to pay folks to drive the stuff out . In the 70s the oil companies did th same thing with their cats. they would drive in a sizmick road and leave the cat at the end. i no of a few cases where guys got flown in , spent a few days firing up the abandoned equipment and then drove it out . Sometimes the trip out took as much as 2 weeks. Not a bad way to get a free D8 .
After awhile some one got upset about the abandoned cats and equipment . Some of it was removed but most was burried if the company could get away with it.

back to roofing
