Roads?...ha!ha! We averaged about 50 miles a day, mule trails, goat trails and two parallel tracks made by vehicles. We were in 3 Jeeps, A CJ5, an FC170 and a Willys Overland. Some wise guy from the US had set up a sign near Gonzaga Bay that said speed checked by radar, it was pretty funny at 7 mph!
The remnants of the roads between the various villages was later tied together as the Baja 1,000 race road and later that became Baja Route 1. Most of it has now been by-passed and paved. The best part was near Bajia De Los Angeles, 175 miles of pure jungle with multiple river crossings.
