A friend of mine near Las Vegas who likes to read Erle Stanley Gardner (early detective story writer) books, told me about one he wrote that mentions power wagons. I just read it.
The Land Of Shorter Shadows, published in 1948, is about Gardner's expedition down the length of Baja in the 40's with a Power Wagon (WDX?) and a 2wd Dodge pickup.
Good read, interesting pictures,and wow, what terrible roads they had to traverse, they sound like very rugged goat paths. It took them weeks to get down the penninsula to Cabo. In the end they made it but had their trucks shipped over to the mainland in order to go back to California on reasonable roads.
