I would deffinately buy victor/harris or other top brand. You should also consider buying a torch built for cutting only. They work a lot better than a multi-use (welding/cutting) torches. You will find limited uses for the welding torch. The biggest advantage of a name brand is part availability, but there is difference in performance as well.
It may seem like a lot, but a good torch set is worth every penny of the $700-800 that it will cost, it will last forever, and you will be able to sell it for nearly what you paid.
