The passenger side support is quite often bent. I have replaced two of them that were. They bend outwards which leaves a gap between it and the wire spool. When this happens I have seen people put in a spacer to resolve the problem. I believe that the support bends when the cable jumps the spool and is wound up between it and the support or the winch is over stressed.

I had one support was bent so badly that only half the shaft was still in the support and the outer half of the shaft hole was quite oblong. Interesting that the hole was deforming as the the support was bending. But then all the teeth on the bronze gear were bent badly as was the truck frame and all of the winch's mounts. Obviously someone had a tiger by the tail and lost.

The supports are still available from various people. John in Idaho may have one and VPW sells a version that they apparently have made. They had it cast thicker than the original to help solve the bending problem. I have one of the VPW supports on my carryall. You can not tell the diffrence unless you look closely at it.
