You would just use the frame from an old gas crew cab with 8' bed.

I am happy with my 6' bed. It has plenty of room to sleep in the back. I can still haul 8' sheets of plywood with the tailgate down. I can even haul a few 16' 2"x4s" if I stick them through the sliding rear window.

I agree a 3/4-ton or 1-ton ought to have a 8' bed in which to haul that much weight, but it's rare I fill the bed to capacity. Most of the heavy stuff ends up on the trailer.

What's not rare is having to make a three point turn just to get in a parking spot. I'm glad it's not any longer.
