I have used 1/2 ton trucks to tow in the past. My wife's old 96 Ram 1500 318 4x4 pulled a 65 FFPW to Pat and Wandas one year.
Nowdays, I use my 98 Ram 2500 24V 4x4, or my wife's 2000 Ford F350 CC 4x4 V10. The rating is slightly less on the F350. I feel pretty secure using these trucks.
After the Durango passed me with the travel trailer doing about 70 mph, I stayed away from him. The load seemed to push the Durango around, and I dont think power was a problem.
I am sure the Durango will get the job done, but unforseen circumstances, such as bad weather, bad drivers, quick stops, etc, may push the Durango to the point of being very unsafe.
Your Woodie is worth more, to me, than using a Durango to tow it more than 100 miles away from home.
