I agree with comments regarding safe towing etc. Previously, I towed this combo with a 1996 3/4 ton medium wheelbase Dodge van with a 318 engine. It was not fast, but that doesn't bother me.
I do not exceed 55 mph. The trailer has electric brakes on all 4 wheels and 5200 lb axles, and breakaway brakes. This van was rated to tow about 8500 lbs...just a bit less than the Durango. It has a longer wheel base but actually weighs less than the Durango.

I will be under the weight limit specified for towing by Chrysler. Yes the trailer and load will weigh more than the Durango, but that is a common situation when towing.

The Durango comes equipped with a Class IV hitch...so they must have intended it to pull a heavy load. I use 1000 lb bars in a load equalizing hitch which greatly improves stability of the towing vehicle.

I don't see this being less safe than towing with a pickup although dual wheel models would offer more stability. Note that the trailer and PW would also out weigh any pickup.

Do you guys still think it is unsafe?
