230 head question-picture

I am getting ready to install the head as part of the rebuild with a new head gasket, and could not remember what the function is of the coarse threaded 3/8" hole near the "d" in the head, just to the side of the center head bolt. My manual is "down" as I am having trouble opening the cd version.
