I just finished putting in a rebuilt 318 V8 from a 1978 Dodge Diplomat into my 1959 W100 half ton. It originally had the flat head six which had been replaced by a 1962 318 V8. They all fit into the same bell housing, but new motor mounts had to be added to support the 318. Hope this helps. Also remember if you change from a generator to an alternator you might have to make some electrical changes. I think just a new voltage regulator.
