My WC-21 (1/2 ton, open cab)came to me with a
pretty nice, heavy duty tow bar welded to the
frame. Seemed like a good idea to me. Off I went
down the road, not thinkingabout the steering
geomotry. The front wheels of the PW did not turn
as I did, they stayed straight & pushed my tow
rig around pretty bad. I had noticable wear on my
rear tires after the 35 mile trip. (never over 30mph)
Not too long ago, I met the widow of the first civilian
owner who built the tow bar. I asked her how often
it got towed. She said SHE would drive it out to
the wheat fields to take water & food to the crews
& they would tow it back behind a 6x6 deuce-&-half
that was full of wheat. She thought I was nuts to
tow it with anything less. I will avoid towing it
ever again if at all possible.
