The "flathead 6" referred to above for <8500 GVW vehicles will be an overhead valve V6 diesel, with HEUI (hydraulically actuated unit injectors) just like the Power stroke, about 4.5L. It will be an excellent conversion motor; virtually NO inline 6 diesel, even a Cummins 3.4AT or Landcruiser 4.0L 2H, will fit in a M37 or Power Wagon without radiator moving or firewall butchery. This V6 will probably fit, though width will become a consideration.
Re "Fords are a piece of crap", this sort of comment should be judged according to its' content...
This motor will be a Navistar built engine, just like the Powerstroke. The Powerstroke in Ford configuration currently puts out 235HP @ 2700 rpm and 500 ft-lb of torque. The power/torque is intentionall limited due to drivetrain breakage consideration, especially with the inadequate automatics all the big 3 use behind their pickup diesels (GM is finally going to use an Allison behind its' Duramax 6.6L V8 built to replace the 6.5 as a joint venture w/Isuzu). The Powerstroke and its' V6 offspring are completely modern, direct injection (= easier cold starting, better power and economy than indirect injection) engine that will provide more than enough power and torque for one of our Dodges with an overdrive transmission, 4.89s, and >36" tires. Hopefully, it will come with a manual transmission with a nice low 1st gear and PTOs, just like the ZFs hooked up to the Powerstroke. And let's hope it's either short enough to not require tranfer case moving with the 2WD version, or the 4WD version is compatible with a NP205.
